Sport is an integral part of life at Tenterfield High School with the emphasis being on enjoyment, participation and sport etiquette. A wide variety of sporting activities are offered in both competitive and non-competitive environments. Students who excel in their competitive sports are encouraged to pursue their talent at inter-house, school, Zone Regional, and State levels. Our school participates in Athletics, Netball, Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, Swimming, Touch, Rugby League, Golf and Squash. Tenterfield High School is a member of the NSW Combined High Schools Sporting Association.
Our school has four sporting houses: Cunningham, Oxley, Parkes and Stewart. These four houses compete against each other throughout the year in Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics and house sport competitions held at the end of each term.
Tenterfield High School is passionate about supporting the next generation of sporting champions as well as developing a healthy future for all students.
If a student is unable to participate in practical PE lessons or Sport, they require a signed note from their Parent/Carer that outlines why that child cannot participate. If this is an ongoing problem, students require a medical certificate from their General Practitioner. Please remember that practical PE is a compulsory part of the school curriculum and participation is mandatory.
Tenterfield High School has two successful debating teams. Last year the Stage 5 team achieved 3rd place in the New England region and from this a member moved on to represent our region at the State Debating Championships. This experience enriched the team’s knowledge of debating and they have already started using their experiences in the current debating competition.
Special thanks to Mr Wayne Lusty for volunteering to be the Stage 4 Debating Coach this year.
